Carly Fiorina Issues Statement on President Obama’s Afghanistan Strategy
December 01, 2009
SACRAMENTO, CA – U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina today issued the following statement after President Obama announced his new strategy for U.S. troops in Afghanistan:
“Defeating the terrorist threat in Afghanistan is an imperative. I agreed with President Obama when he said in March that this would require military commitment, economic development and diplomatic energy. I also agree that Afghanistan and Pakistan are inextricably linked.
“I support the President’s decision to send additional troops to Afghanistan and am pleased that he is deploying them as quickly as prudently possible. I believe that any timeline for withdrawal must be sensitive to conditions on the ground, so that it does not pose a security risk for both Americans and Afghans. I also support our efforts to increase the capacity of Afghan military forces to protect their nation.
“To achieve victory, it is critically important to continue to listen to our commanders on the ground. The men and women of our armed forces and their families are heroes who are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for the safety and security of this nation, and they deserve the best possible tools and strategy we can provide as we move forward toward victory in Afghanistan.”
