SACRAMENTO, CA – U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina today issued the following statement in response to President Obama’s announcement that he has asked the Democratic Congressional leadership to push through his health care overhaul plan using budget reconciliation, a 50-plus-1 strategy that candidate Obama decried during his campaign for the White House:
“I’m deeply disappointed that President Obama, Senator Boxer and their Democratic counterparts in Washington have decided to force through their big-government health care overhaul using questionable gimmicks that mock the deliberative process. The people of this country have made their opposition to this plan loud and clear, yet this administration and its allies in Congress continue to press forward with this misguided policy.
“If Washington is serious about implementing true bipartisan health care reform, they should start by implementing the strategies we know work to reduce costs and improve quality. Instead what they are doing is ramming through a monstrous bill with a trillion-dollar price tag in what amounts to a government takeover of 17 percent of the U.S. economy. It’s no wonder Americans are so tired of career politicians and the games they play in Washington.”
