LOS ANGELES, CA – U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina today earned the endorsement of the West Los Angeles Young Republicans.

“Young Republicans can and will play a pivotal role in restoring responsible leadership both to California and to Washington, and I am humbled and thankful to receive the endorsement of the West Los Angeles Young Republicans,” said Fiorina. “For 18 years, Barbara Boxer has put the needs of environmental extremists, big labor and other special interests over the needs of everyday Californians. As a U.S. Senator, my top priorities will be job creation, jumpstarting our economy and reining in out-of-control federal spending.”

The West Los Angeles Young Republicans is a local chapter of the Young Republican Federation of California. Its mission is to support and equip Republicans under age 40 for greater political involvement through grassroots organization, recruitment and mobilization.

“Carly Fiorina’s real-world experience creating jobs, balancing budgets and making payroll gives her the exact skill set we need in these hard economic times,” said West Los Angeles Young Republican Chair Julila-Anna Kavich. “Carly will stand up and fight for the needs of Californians, and we are proud to endorse her candidacy for U.S. Senate and end Barbara Boxer’s failed tenure.”

SACRAMENTO, CA – At a Sacramento press conference, former California Secretary of State Bill Jones today announced his endorsement of U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina.

“Whether it’s jobs and the economy, agriculture, public safety or a keen understanding that we must solve the state’s water issues in a meaningful way that allows for California’s growth and job creation, Carly recognizes the complex issues facing our state and nation today. Carly is a political outsider with the real-world experience necessary to successfully tackle these issues as our advocate in the U.S. Senate,” said Jones. “We need a candidate who is right on the issues, who isn’t afraid to take on Barbara Boxer and who will hold her accountable for her appalling record in Washington. That candidate is Carly Fiorina, and I’m proud to endorse her today.”

A native of California’s Central Valley and a longtime farmer, Jones was twice elected statewide as California’s Secretary of State, first in 1994 and re-elected in 1998. During his tenure, Jones was highly regarded for his efforts to reform elections, streamline government functions and increase government transparency. Jones began his political career in 1982, serving in the California State Assembly, including a stint as Republican Leader. Jones is well known for authoring Proposition 184, California’s Three Strikes law, which led to a drop in California’s violent crime rate. He is the most recent Republican candidate to have run against Boxer for the United States Senate.

“I greatly admire the good work Bill Jones has done on behalf of the people of California, and I’m honored to have him on my campaign team,” said Fiorina. “Over the course of her 18-year career, Barbara Boxer has lost touch with the people of this state, and it’s clear California needs new representation in the U.S. Senate. As a U.S. senator, it will be my first priority to champion the priorities of the people of California: job creation and cutting government spending.”

In reflection of the growing support behind her campaign for U.S. Senate, Fiorina yesterday announced earning the endorsement of former California State Senator Marian Bergeson. Fiorina has also been supported recently by Board of Equalization Member Michelle Steel and former Fresno Mayor Alan Autry.

SACRAMENTO, CA – U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina today earned the endorsement of former California State Senator Marian Bergeson.

“Senator Bergeson has dedicated her life to serving the people of California, and I greatly admire her for her accomplishments and her contributions to this great state. I am humbled and honored to receive her support and endorsement,” said Fiorina. “After 18 years of Barbara Boxer’s bitter partisanship and ineffective leadership, Californians are tired of the same failed policies of tax, spend, borrow and regulate she supports. We are ready for a change, and that starts with changing who we send to Washington.”

Bergeson began her political career as a member of the Newport-Mesa Unified School District Board of Education. In 1978, Bergeson was elected to the California State Assembly representing the 74th Assembly District. In 1984, Bergeson was elected to the California State Senate, becoming the first woman in California history elected to both the State Assembly and the State Senate. Following her tenure in the Legislature, Bergeson was elected to the Orange County Board of Supervisors before being appointed by Governor Pete Wilson as California’s Secretary of Education. She is also the former chair of the California Transportation Commission, a post to which she was appointed in 2004.

“Carly Fiorina is a proven leader and dedicated conservative who I believe will help usher in real change to Washington. She has a strong track record of success despite facing tough challenges,” said Bergeson. “Given the tough economic times families and communities are facing across the country, we need an advocate in Washington who is not afraid to stand up for California, champion policies that create jobs and make the hard decisions necessary to cut bloat from our federal budget. Carly is the best candidate for the job, and I am pleased to endorse her.”

Earlier this week, Fiorina officially filed to run for U.S. Senate. Since November, Fiorina has traveled the state building support for her campaign and talking with voters about the issues most important to them.

SAN JOSE, CA – At the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters, Carly Fiorina today filed to put her name on the June primary election ballot as a Republican candidate for United States Senate. She vowed to take on Barbara Boxer and her failed record as California’s senator for the last 18 years.

“For 18 long years, California has been represented by a bitterly partisan and ineffective senator in Barbara Boxer. She has completely failed to represent the people who sent her to Washington in the first place,” said Fiorina. “I don’t come from Washington; I come from the real world. From that real-world experience I know firsthand how to create jobs, and I have been on the receiving end of job-killing government regulation. When I go to Washington, my first priority will be to encourage job creation by lowering the tax and regulatory burden for our nation’s job creators: small businesses. We must also cut off Washington’s spending spree by refusing to send them more of our hard-earned money. Today I am asking the people of California to vote for me as their next U.S. Senator. Changing Washington starts with changing the people we send there.”

Since announcing her intention to run for the U.S. Senate in November 2009, Carly has traveled up and down the state from San Diego to Los Angeles, from Fresno to Sacramento, and from California’s Central Coast to the Inland Empire to talk to voters about who she is and what she will do as their U.S. senator.

“It will take a tremendous push from a broad, diverse network of grassroots supporters to defeat Boxer and the special interests that bankroll her campaigns. I’m thankful to have many committed Californians standing with me in telling Washington we’ve had enough,” Fiorina added. “I look forward to continuing to travel up and down California in the coming months to talk with the people of this great state and discuss how we can work together to develop effective solutions to our most pressing challenges.”

Sacramento, CA - Last Friday, the Investigative Project on Terrorism made public the letter Tom Campbell wrote on behalf of Sami Al-Arian, who has been convicted of aiding the terrorist organization Palestinian Islamic Jihad. The letter directly contradicts statements made by Tom Campbell in Friday’s debate, and it directly contradicts the “facts” posted on the Campbell campaign’s Web site. In light of these revelations, Carly for California Campaign Manager Marty Wilson today issued the following statement:

“Tom Campbell has refused to release this letter despite repeated calls for him to do so. Now we know why. The content of the letter itself, and the date on which it was written reveal that what Tom Campbell told voters in Friday’s debate about his relationship with Al-Arian-and just as importantly, what he knew about him at the time-is quite simply false. In addition, Campbell’s new ‘fact-checking’ Web site www.campbellfacts.org contains further falsehoods that inaccurately depict both his relationship with Al-Arian and when he took action to help him.

“Tom Campbell should immediately remove this inaccurate information from his ‘fact checking’ Web site and explain to voters why he has not been forthright about his connection to Sami Al-Arian.”

Click here to read the January 21, 2002, letter from Campbell urging the University of South Florida to reinstate Sami Al-Arian.

In Friday’s debate, Campbell directly contradicted his own letter when he said:

“There is one other point to be raised, and that is that he was a professor, and he was terminated from his position at the University of South Florida before any of this evidence came out.”

Later in the debate, Campbell said he wrote the letter before Al-Arian’s interview with Bill O’Reilly:

“Well-known facts because it was on Bill O’Reilly, that was after the campaign was over and after my letter to the University of South Florida.”

However, Campbell writes in the letter that he had read the O’Reilly transcript before writing the letter on behalf of Al-Arian. In addition, the letter contradicts the claims made by Campbell on his new “fact checking” Web site, Campbellfacts.org, that he launched in conjunction with Friday’s debate:

Campbellfacts.org claims…

“Later, the professor was indicted and tried on charges of having helped terrorist organizations. The evidence introduced at the trial included very upsetting language from wiretaps that was quite shocking. Campbell, obviously, would never have written to the University about him, or had any other association with him, if he had known that evidence at the time.” (http://www.campbellfacts.org/terrorism/helping-terrorists)

The letter reveals…

“I read the transcript of the O’Reilly Factor interview last autumn, and I did not see anything whereby Professor Al-Arian attempted to claim he was representing the views of the University of South Florida.”

After the O’Reilly Factor interview and well before Campbell wrote the letter, there were several media reports on including a lengthy op-ed in the St. Petersburg Times that detailed Al-Arian’s connections to Palestinian Islamic Jihad and his efforts to raise funds for the organization.

Click here to read the transcript of the interview Fox News Channel’s Bill O’Reilly conducted with Sami Al-Arian on September 26, 2001.

Click here to read a St. Petersburg Times editorial published on November 1, 2001 regarding Sami Al-Arian.

Campbellfacts.org claims…

“More than nine years ago and before September 11, Campbell, along with other university professors, wrote a letter to the President of the University of South Florida asking for fairness for the treatment of a professor who had been dismissed.” (http://www.campbellfacts.org/terrorism)

The letter reveals…

Tom Campbell’s letter to Al-Arian is dated January 21, 2002, and postmarked January 22, 2002.

Campbellfacts.org claims…

“He had met this professor in his campaign in 2000; the professor and his friends had contributed to Tom’s campaign, and Tom made that clear in the text of his letter.” (http://www.campbellfacts.org/terrorism/helping-terrorists)

The letter reveals…

Campbell met Al-Arian during his time in Congress when he introduced legislation in 1999 that would have given Al-Arian’s brother-in-law, who was in jail at the time, access to the evidence against him. In the letter Campbell writes:

“It this effort, I came to know Professor Sami Al-Arian, whose brother-in-law had been subjected to this practice.”

Other media reports confirm that Campbell knew Al-Arian due to this legislation and also reveal that Campbell wrote a letter to the judge in Sami Al-Arian’s brother-in-law’s case and that he visited him in prison.

BUENA PARK, CA – During a speech at the California Republican Assembly (CRA) Convention in Buena Park, U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina tonight discussed her background as a political outsider, her conservative values and the importance of replacing Barbara Boxer with a true fiscal conservative.

“For 18 years, Barbara Boxer has championed liberal policies that will bankrupt our nation and destroy the American Dream for our children and grandchildren. But we have an opportunity to stop her,” Fiorina said to the crowd. “This November, voters must send a message loud and clear: We want a conservative senator who will stand up for California and bring real change to Washington.”

CRA is the state’s oldest and largest Republican volunteer organization. The organization’s mission is to elect Republican candidates who stand unwaveringly for Republican principles. CRA is celebrating its 75th anniversary at the convention this year.

“I was raised in a household with a firm foundation in conservative values. These core beliefs have guided me throughout my life, and they will continue to define the way I think about the issues and will guide my votes in the Senate,” continued Fiorina. “I am running because the decisions made by the U.S. Senate affect every family and every business in America. I am the conservative candidate who can beat Barbara Boxer.”

THE TRUTH ABOUT…Carly and Internet policy.

CLAIM:
Carly wants to limit freedom of speech by regulating and taxing the Internet.

FACT:
Carly Fiorina has always opposed taxing the Internet and imposing more regulation on legal activities carried out online. As a technology industry leader, she worked to stop new taxes on the Internet from becoming a reality. Meanwhile, Tom Campbell does in fact support taxing the Internet.

Fiorina: “We Can’t Tax Innovation.” “Innovation is what grows economies. Innovation is what creates jobs. It’s always been true. But sometimes, some people forget that. And innovation can be fostered or it can be inhibited. The reason I went to meet with John McCain in the year 2000 many years ago on the subject of Internet taxation was to make the case that we can’t tax innovation.” (TechRepublican.com <http://techrepublican.com/blog/a-candid-conversation-with-carly-fiorina> , Accessed 11/9/09)

“I Do Not Favor More Regulation Or Taxes On The Internet. Less Regulation Is Always Better Than More.” (“Interview With Carly Fiorina,” The Flash Report <http://www.flashreport.org/commentary0b.php?postID=2009110319091465&authID=2005081622025042&post_offsetP=0> , 11/4/09)

Campbell “Supports States Levying Sales Taxes On Internet Purchases.” “Campbell is no panderer. His congressional district is a high-tech haven, yet, unlike many Repubs, he supports states levying sales taxes on Internet purchases. ‘Otherwise, where do you get your money for police and fire departments?’ Campbell explained. ‘I took that stand because it was right.’” (Debra J. Saunders, “Campbell, The Anti-Pol,” San Francisco Chronicle, 9/3/00)

Campbell: “If A Good Would Be Subject To Tax Anyway, It Shouldn’t Be Any Different Just Because You Buy It On The Internet.” “On the Internet, a subject of great interest to constituents in Campbell’s home district, he repeated his position that ‘if a good would be subject to tax anyway, it shouldn’t be any different just because you buy it on the Internet.’ Campbell has said an exemption for the Internet would undermine his goal of replacing income taxes with a national sales tax.” (Barry Witt, “U.S. Senate: Campbell’s GOP Foes Say He Is Not A True Conservative,” San Jose Mercury News, 2/3/00)

FACT:
Tom’s vote was in 1990, three years before the signing of the Oslo Accords and during a different presidential administration. Tom Campbell is so desperate to rewrite his record in Congress, he now rewriting history, too. Tom Campbell’s vote against recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital is part of a broader pattern of anti-Israel votes, associations and endorsements hasn’t been forgotten by Republicans in California.

THE TRUTH ABOUT…The fiscally unsound 2005 state budget.

CLAIM:
The 2005 budget was fiscally responsible and balanced.

FACT:
As California’s Finance Director, Tom Campbell crafted a $11.7 billion budget that contained significant borrowing and increased general fund spending at record levels. Chuck DeVore voted for the budget, which the nonpartisan Legislative Analyst’s Office projected would lead to multibillion-dollar operating deficits, even in a best-case scenario.

Campbell “Conceded That The Budget Contains Significant Borrowing.” “Tom Campbell, Schwarzenegger’s new finance director, conceded that the budget contains significant borrowing. But he said there wasn’t anything deceptive about it.” (Gary Delsohn, “Plan Relies Heavily On Borrowing,” Sacramento Bee, 1/11/05)

California’s Official Nonpartisan Fiscal And Policy Advisor: “We Project That Multibillion-Dollar Operating Deficits…Will Persist Throughout Most Of The Forecast Period.” “Even assuming continued steady economic growth, we project that multibillion-dollar operating deficits (that is, annual shortfalls between revenues and expenditures) will persist throughout most of the forecast period. Eliminating these shortfalls will require significant actions. Beyond this, an economic downturn or even sharp slowdown sometime in the next several years would add several billions of dollars to the projected shortfalls, and while this is not our baseline forecast, it could always occur.” (“California’s Fiscal Outlook: LAO Projections 2005-06 Through 2010-11 <http://www.lao.ca.gov/2005/fiscal_outlook/fiscal_outlook_05.htm> ,” Legislative Analyst’s Office, November 2005)

Chuck DeVore voted for Governor Schwarzenegger’s 2005 budget. (Roll Call Vote <http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/pub/05-06/bill/sen/sb_0051-0100/sb_77_vote_20050707_0103PM_asm_floor.html> , 2005-2006 Budget, 7/7/05)

DeVore On The 2005 Budget: “This Budget Has No New Taxes And Fully Funds Road Building. The Democrats Wanted Billions More In New Taxes And Spending And A Bigger Deficit. Republicans Won.” (John Gittelsohn, “The Weekly Juice: O.C. Dissenters No Barrier For Budget,” The Orange County Register, 7/10/05)

Chuck Devore’s GOP Colleagues Criticized The 2005 Budget Saying That It Failed To Address The Overspending Problem. (Alexa H. Bluth, “Governor Caught In Spending Trap,” Sacramento Bee, 8/14/05)

THE TRUTH ABOUT…Tom’s record on taxes.

CLAIM:
Tom Campbell never voted for a tax increase as a member of Congress.

FACT:
Tom Campbell proposed a gas tax increase in 1989 as a member of Congress. While technically he never VOTED for the bill because it was DOA, he did propose a tax increase. In 1997 he voted against a tax cut. He was the ONLY House Republican to do so. Since that time he has supported numerous other tax increases including a 32-cent gas tax increase and taxes on the Internet. He is the only candidate in this primary who refuses to sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge.

As A Member Of Congress In 1989, Campbell Introduced A Bill To Increase The Tax On Gasoline. (H.R. 2889 <http://rs9.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c101:H.R.2889:> , “To Amend The Internal Revenue Code Of 1986 To Increase The Tax On Leaded Gasoline,” 101st Congress, 7/13/89)

· Campbell Maintains He “Never Voted For A Tax Increase” Because His Federal Gas Tax Hike Never Came Up For A Vote. (“The Candidates & The Issue: Federal Taxes,” The Orange County Register, 3/9/92)

In 2009, Campbell Proposed Increasing The Gas Tax Hike Again; This Time By 32-Cents A Gallon. (Jon Fleischman, “Tom Campbell On The State Budget,” Flash Report <http://www.flashreport.org/blog.php?postID=2009052310502296> , 5/23/09)

In Congress, Tom Campbell Voted Against The First Major Tax Cut Since The Reagan Administration In 1981. (David Espo, “House Approves Tax Plan Worth Billions In Cuts,” The Associated Press via The Daily Press, 6/27/97)

· The 1997 Tax Relief Package That Campbell Voted Against Included $135 Billion In Tax Breaks For Families, Students And Investors. (David Espo, “House Approves Tax Plan Worth Billions In Cuts,” The Associated Press via The Daily Press, 6/27/97)

· Tom Campbell Was The Only House Republican To Vote With Democrats Against The Tax Relief Package. (“Senate To Debate Cigarette Taxes As House Passes Bill,” National Journal, 6/27/97)

Campbell Publicly Refused To Sign A No-Tax Pledge As He Launched His Senate Campaign In January 2010. “Campbell, however, said he would not sign a No-Tax Pledge because, he argued, no one can anticipate every situation that might arise.” (Joel Fox, “Campbell Defends Fiscal Record As He Campaigns For U.S. Senate <http://foxandhoundsdaily.com/blog/joel-fox/6258-campbell-defends-fiscal-record-he-campaigns-us-senate> ,” Fox & Hounds, 1/19/10)

In 2009, Campbell Publicly Supported Tax Increases Overwhelmingly Rejected By California Voters. “Campbell’s other gamble is to be The Republican who backs Proposition 1A, the spending-cap-but-it-comes-with-tax-increases measure that will be on the May 19 special election ballot. Whitman and Poizner both oppose the measure being championed by Schwarzenegger, Democratic legislative leaders and the handful of Republicans who voted for Sacramento’s most recent budget. That’s right – Campbell is supporting a measure that continues the current budget’s sales tax, income tax and vehicle license fee increases for another two years.” (Debra Saunders, “Campbell Is Banking On His Experience,” San Gabriel Valley Tribune, 4/12/09)

Campbell Proposes Raising California’s Gas Tax By 32-Cents. “Campbell, who was Schwarzenegger’s finance director in 2004-05, also has employed a potentially risky strategy by outlining on his Web site exactly how he’d close the state’s $24 billion deficit. Perhaps the most unusual piece is a temporary 32-cent gas hike; he’d use the money to prevent the firing of teachers, an increase in class sizes and elimination of community college courses. In a talk before the Silicon Valley Leadership Group on Friday, Campbell acknowledged that recommending a gas tax was ‘third-rail politics.’” (Ken McLaughlin, “Can Tom Campbell Upset Billionaires Running For California Governor?,” San Jose Mercury News, 6/19/09)

Tom’s Beliefs On Tax Hikes Are Out-Of-Step With Californians. “Half of California voters believe the state should close its $19.9 billion deficit mostly or entirely through spending cuts rather than tax increases, according to a Field Poll released Tuesday. That compares with 29 percent who said the state should use an equal mix of spending cuts and tax increases, or 13 percent who prefer balancing the budget solely or mostly with tax hikes.” (Kevin Yamamura, “Field Poll: More California voters prefer spending cuts, not taxes, to close deficit <http://www.sacbee.com/2010/03/02/2574952/field-poll-half-of-california.html> ,” Sacramento Bee, 3/2/10)
